Don Tapscott is a genuine guru on the world stage. Since the '80s when we worked together, Don has been explaining how computers and the internet have been driving innovation in business models. Today, no one can argue the case for Web 2.0 better.

TED - ideas worth spreading -  is great.

Here, Clay Shirky explains why Twitter, cellphones and Facebook are making history. What's changed in the media landscape - it, and the tools available have become global, social, ubiquitous and cheap.

He's perhaps a bit out-there these days, but Kevin Kelly remains one of the people I listen to ever since I read "Out of Control" when it was published in 1994.

NEWS WITH STRATEGY IMPLICATIONS

From The Times - March 13, 2009

It's a fabrication that Britain doesn't make things any more
The idea that we need to ‘reindustrialise' is based on a myth. Britain's manufacturing output is still bigger than France's.

What we do

Vision development

The "vision" is the core element of a change programme that can galvanise your team.

But defining what you want as a vision - for your company, division or group - varies significantly. How urgent is the vision? What is its scope in terms of geography, customer base or organisation? Our initial consultation with you should answer these questions. And that will let us agree with you what a "vision" might constitute. We have had experience facilitating vision development for large Divisions of multi-nationals and for entire smaller companies.

Scenario planning

Sometimes, the required vision requires the development and exploration of alternative scenarios. This makes more sense when the vision being sought is much longer term. In such cases, there are usually a number of different futures that need to be explored. Scenario development is more complex and time-consuming, will require your team to connect to wider issues, and may necessitate you involving people and organisations beyond your normal scope.  Look at our high-street bank case study as one example of how this can work.

Innovation

Building a culture of innovation in your company cannot be done overnight. Like building a capacity for strategic thinking, becoming a company that acts innovatively is a journey that doesn't cease. Strategic thinking and innovation are arguably two sides of the same coin. We can help you develop that culture. But, if fresh thinking is urgent, we can also inject innovative ideas - right here and right now.

Strategy facilitation

Strategy follows from Vision. Strategy explains the way that the organisation intends to achieve the future state - the vision. We work with you to develop a strategy process and help you to manage that process.  As with vision, strategy processes are not "one size fits all". We will assist you in designing and managing a strategy process that is appropriate to your needs.

Strategic coaching

We recognise that executives want to lead strategy. Yet many have little or no experience in this role. After all, most Chief Executives and other senior managers have arrived at their positions from operational roles where strategy, while a key issue, was not always one that was undertaken in a systematic way.

Leading strategy is difficult. Our coaching service is designed specifically to provide one-to-one coaching and confidential support as you plan and lead strategy.

Company Boards also can struggle with how to play an effective role in strategy development. We can provide group coaching and executive-level education to equip Boards in this crucial responsibility.

Case-for action development

A  key element of a change programme is an analysis of the situation that has led to the need for strategy and change. Too often, this analysis is skimpy and not presented in such a way that the Board and the staff involved in change can understand and agree to. We have considerable experience in analysing your current situation and drawing out the key arguments for change in a compelling manner.

Executive team training

We can create and deliver comprehensive training programmes that will support you and your team as you embark on your strategic journey. These programmes are tailored to your specific needs.
